1. The "Tight Terrace" Security Gate (Totterdown, Easton, Bedminster)
In these vibrant, high-density areas, homes often back onto communal alleyways. These "back lanes" are handy for bikes but are a favourite route for opportunist thieves.
The Challenge: High foot traffic and narrow access. The Solution: High-Security Timber Gates.
- Construction: We use Framed, Ledged, and Braced (FLB) construction. This is a heavy-duty timber frame that cannot be kicked through easily.
- The Lock: We banish the padlock. Instead, we install a Keyed Long-Throw Lock. This stainless steel bolt goes right through the gate, allowing you to lock it securely from the inside and outside with a key. It’s vastly more secure than a slide bolt.
- Height: We aim for 1.8m (6ft) to prevent anyone from peering over into your courtyard.
2. The "Driveway Statement" (Henleaze, Westbury-on-Trym, Stoke Bishop)
In the leafy suburbs of North Bristol, driveways are the norm. Residents here value convenience and kerb appeal.
The Challenge: Wide entrances that need to look prestigious. The Solution: Automated Hardwood or Aluminium.
- Automation: Getting out of the car in the rain to open a gate is a pain. We install automated swing or sliding gates that open at the touch of a button (or via your smartphone).
- Material: Iroko Hardwood is the favourite here. It is an oily, dense wood that looks incredible and resists the damp. Alternatively, Aluminium gates in anthracite grey are gaining popularity for their "zero maintenance" appeal.
3. The "Suburban Robust" (Kingswood, Downend, Hanham)
These areas are filled with solid 1930s semis and family homes. The priority here is usually keeping kids and dogs in, and unwanted visitors out.
The Challenge: Durability and value for money. The Solution: Feather Edge (Closeboard) Gates.
We build these gates to match the fencing. Using overlapping vertical boards on a strong frame, they are solid, afford total privacy, and are very difficult to climb. They offer the best balance of high security and affordability, making them the top choice for family gardens in East Bristol.
4. The "Country Classic" (Long Ashton, Failand, Wraxall)
On the fringes of the city, the vibe changes. Solid block gates can look too "urban" against a stone cottage or a hedge boundary.
The Challenge: aesthetic harmony with the countryside. The Solution: The 5-Bar Field Gate.
Nothing says "country home" like a classic wooden 5-bar gate. Pro Tip: If you have small dogs, we can install a wire mesh backing to the bottom half of the gate. This keeps the classic look but stops the terrier from escaping onto the lane.
